Lord Krishna had to fight with Jambavan for the Syamantak Mani. He had to fight Jambavan, not for Mani, but to disprove the charge of stealing the gem. The Bear King Jambavan did not recognize Lord Krishna and started to fight with him. Later, when Jambwant started losing in the war, he called his Lord Rama to help him.
Hearing his call, Lord Krishna had to come in his Rama form. Jambwant became full of wonder to Lord Krishna in the form of Sri Rama.

Jambavan offered the gem and requested Shri Krishna to marry my daughter Jambavati.
Sri Krishna accepted his request. Not everyone had the potential to receive this Syamantak Mani.
Only an honest person could keep this Syamantak Mani. The gem became the source of bad luck and death if it was in wrong hand. Sri Krishna offered that gem to Akrur. Many think that the Kohinoor diamond is actually a small piece of Syamantak Mani. The history of the Kohinoor diamond also shows that the one who received this diamond died accidentally.
